The nearby Araluen Botanic Park, located in Armadale, is a major point of interest for visitors from across the city. The grounds are home to a well-tended botanic garden offering tranquility to all visitors throughout the entire year. Within the park, streams flow around bushwalking tracks flourishing with native flora and open grassy areas which are perfect for a family picnic.
The heritage-listed gardens boast a wide variety of stunning floral displays, which bloom from the rich soil. Manicured, terraced gardens, water features structured crafted from stone and timber, and grand, old trees are housed on the grounds. There are many amenities available within the park, including electric and wood-fired barbecues, electric gophers and wheelchair hire. The Chalet Healy tea rooms are located in the park, offering cosy log cabin settings in which to drink tea and look over the splendid view of the park. A gift shop is also available, which has its own open log fire to make visitors more comfortable in the wintertime.
The park also hosts a wide range of festivals and activities. These include Art in the Park on the fourth Sunday of each month, and the Christmas celebration known as Carols by Torchlight, which occurs in December. Children’s workshops and activities are also held during the school holidays.
